지스케이트보드의 매력은 더 멀리, 더 빠르게, 그리고 더 높은 기술을 구사하는데 있지 않다. 그런 것들은 스케이트보드를 시작해서 새로운 기
술들을 익힐 때에 자연스레 끌리는 물리적 특징일 뿐이다. 스케이트보드가 가진 진정한 힘과 매력은 유연함에 있다. 기존과는 다른 방식으로
주변 환경과 교감하고, 그 어떠한 환경에도 적응할 수 있는 그 유연함을 말한다. 당신이 스케이트보드 위에 올라서는 매 순간 마다 나이, 인종,
성별 심지어는 신체 능력을 막론하고 이전에는 존재하지 않았던 완전히 새로운 무언가를 이뤄낼 수 있는 특별한 기회를 갖게 된다.

름없는 캘리포니아도 아닌, 부상의 회복 중에 머물렀던 뉴욕에서 프로 스케이트보더가 된 Herrington은 동부 스케이트보딩에 매료되었다. 그
것은 단순히 트릭을 사진에 담는 것을 넘어, 스케이터와 기물, 그리고 그것을 기록하는 자, 셋이 공생하며 삼위일체를 이루어 함께 하는 관계
를 말한다.
The magic of skateboarding isn’t going further or faster or even higher. Those are physical feats that the mind automatically
gravitates towards, when learning a new skill. Fluidity is skateboarding’s power and allure-the ability to physically interact
with your environment in completely new ways and adapt to anything. Every time you step on a skateboard, no matter
what your age, race, sex, or even physical capabilites are, you have a unique opportunity to do something that’s never
been done before.
This is Aaron Herrington framed through photographer Pep Kim’s eye. Like Herrington, Kim’s not from New York, but
something about East Coast skateboarding-the mindset, the life style, the weather, and the purity-infected him six years
ago, since leaving his home in Korea. It’s more than photographing a trick, it’s the relationship between the skater, the
obstacle, and the one documenting it, which becomes a symbiotic trinity-all parts equal, creating the whole. This is how i
want to see skateboarding and this is how i want to see New York, cracks, scars, flaws, and all, because those
imperfections equal a perfection that’s best captured and appreciated, rather than explained.
