1999년 가을 처음으로 그래피티라는 것을 알게 되었다. 연습장에 그래피티랍시고 끄적대며 마구 그림을 그려댔다. 그러기를 몇 개월, 스프레이를 잡고 벽에 직접 그림을 그려야겠다고 마음을 먹고 찾은 장소가 마침 집근처 온천장역 밑 온천 하천변이었다. 그렇게 2000년 봄 처음으
로 벽에 그림을 그린 나는 혼자서 계속 온천장 지하철역 밑에서 그림을 그렸다. 그러다 함께 그림을 그릴 친구들을 찾기 위해 인터넷 상에
G.I.P)Graffiti In Pusan *당시엔 Busan을 Pusan이라고 표기했다)라는 동호회를 만들고 거의 매주 만남을 가지며 온천천변에 그림을 그렸다. 그렇게 1년 만에 온천장역 밑에서 부산대학앞역 까지 그래피티를 했던 벽은 점점 길어졌다. 하지만 2001년경 낙서 같은 이상한 그림들을
처음 접한 시민들의 민원으로 금정구청에서는 하늘색 페인트를 이용해 모든 그래피티를 지워버리고 하천변에서 그림 그리는 행위를 금지한다
는 안내판을 세우고 그래피티 행위를 단속하기 시작했다.
이듬해 온천천변 공사는 진행되었다. 공사가 진행되는 와중에서 과거의 영광을 기억하는 사람들이 드문드문 찾아와 그림을 그렸지만 방치된
화분속의 꽃이 금방 생기를 잃듯 관리되지 못한 그곳의 그래피티 작품들은 금방 페인트가 벗겨지고 쉽게 그림들이 훼손되었다.
공사가 끝이 났을 때 온천장역-부산대학앞역-장전역 일대를 모두 아우르는 몇 Km에 이르던 거대한 그래피티 스팟은 불과 20여 미터로 줄었
고 당연하게도 그곳은 그래피티 아티스트 누구도 찾지 않는 죽은 공간이 되어 버렸다.
물리적으로는 분명히 존재하지만 지금은 사라져버린 그곳을 기억하기 위하여 가지고 있던 사진과 친구들이 보내준 사진자료들을 모았다. 그
곳은 지금의 나와 내 친구들을 있게 해준 곳이며 우리들의 기억 속에 분명히 존재하는 공간이다. 다만 우리들의 기억속에서도 사라져 버리기
전에 되새기고 추억하기 위해 이 책을 만든다. 찬란히 빛났고 허무하게 사라져 버린 그곳을 기억하는 모든 이들에게 이 책을 선물하고 싶다.

First, I got to know about graffiti in Fall 1999. Drawing something randomly in sketch-books, I called it graffiti. After months
like that, Oncheonjang station near my house came to me for a place to start painting on walls. From spring 2000 when I
drew the first painting on wall, I kept doing it by myself there. Then, in order to find some friends to paint together, I made
an internet club named G.I.P(Graffiti In Pusan* at that time Busan was written as Pusan) and had meeting almost almost
every week. One year later, the painted wall started from Oncheonjang station became longer and stretched to Busan
University station. However, the districy office banned paintings and clamped down on it as well as colored the whole walls
into sky blue from complaints of citizen who never had seen it before.
Next year, they continued the construction. Even during the construction, some people who remembered the past glories
sparsely visited and drew paintings but they didn’t last long and got damaged easily in uncontrolled condition.
When the renovation finished, the area once went along few kilometers was shortened by twenties meter long and fairly, it
was deathlike to the artists. District office newly filled the place with some common painting using whole space and called
it Graffiti Zone. Sparky shiny graffiti scene naturally born in 2000 was one of Busan’s representative cultures. But this place
started to be dying like this.
To remember where still existing physically of course but now disappeared emotionally, I gathered the photos and articles
from many friends and myself. That place made the friends and me in now and is still there in our memories obviously. Just
for looking back when the memories are gone in some day from the future, I publish this book. This book is for all who still
remember the splendid place but gone in vain.
